Bawah Reserve – Asia’s Private Luxury Island

bawah reserve

Bawah Reserve has been and and single most favourite holiday I have ever had! A very recently opened private island with beautiful lagoons provides its visitors with an extraordinary experience. The feeling there I had was as if I was sent to a parallel universe to live there for 4 days.

What is Bawah Reserve? It is located on Bawah Island, a group of six islands and three lagoons in the Anambas Archipelago of Indonesia. It was actually opened by a British entrepreneur based in Singapore who fell in love with this beautiful nature. Interesting thing to say is that they had to build everything from scratch. The whole renovation started in 2012 and it was opened this year in February. It is amazing to see how everything is still very rustic, with the little touch of human’s hand. That makes this beautiful island a very special destination to enjoy. What I enjoyed the most is that I spent almost the whole time barefoot. For a person like me who travels very much it is a priceless way of enjoying the holidays. 🙂

In order to arrive to Bawah Reserve, there are a few steps to follow. First you need to arrive to Batam, which is a small city in Indonesia. We arrived there from Singapore with a ferry (very close to Changi airport), and then directly went to the Batam airport. Kind people from Bawah help you with everything. Actually the whole organisation from there depends on them! From the Batam Airport we took a water plane for an hour and a half in order to arrive to the island. It is not possible to take a plane directly from Singapore to Bawah Resort as there are passport controls which you need to pass so Batam is the place where you do it.

At the Bawah Island there are more types of villas where you can stay. There are beach villas on the sand. The over water villas located at either end of the island and on a short path over the water. And there are a couple of garden villas in the greenery of the island. Each one of them is special and particular in its own way. We had the beach villa and I loved waking up every morning at 6:30am in order to enjoy the walk and the sunrise. I would have loved to experience the water villas too, but you never know if I might go back one day. 🙂 Everything is made in such a way that all the guests have the privacy necessary to feel the island. The villas are set adequately apart from each other.

Talking about food at Bawah Reserve, everything is all inclusive except alcohol drinks. So it means you can eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner, and drink non-alcoholic drinks as much as you want. The meals created for the guests are all tailor-made and always so innovative. For lunch there is a same menu, however for dinner there is a special kind of meal every evening. I loved going to the Beach Bar, enjoying the silence of this island and having the beach almost only just for us.

One day we had a picnic organised to a Coconut beach, which is on the other side of the island. The water there is even more clear. We had the whole meal there, and the service was amazing! I was so excited to take even more different pictures and embrace this place even more.
